Arthur "Rip" Payne

Arthur E. Payne is a 1954 initiate into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at North Carolina Central University. Brother Payne was a member of the baseball team and he excelled academically. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during both the Korean Conflict and War in Vietnam. His specialty was in the Medical Corps while stationed at Fort Sam Houston.

After exemplary military service in the U.S. Army, he returned to college to complete his Master’s degree. Brother Payne had a distinguished career at both Wachovia Bank and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he retired as the Manager of Human Resources. He is a trailblazer and used his position and influence to recruit and hire many African Americans.

Brother Payne (affectionately called “RIP”) is a member of the Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. He served many years as Polemarch and as the Keeper of Records. He also served as a member of the Middle Eastern Province Board. He remains active in the fraternity and is counted on for his wise counsel and historical perspective. Although Brother Payne has served Kappa Alpha Psi for over 64 years, he has the vigor and optimism of a neophyte.

Robert McAdams

McAdams is a graduate of North Carolina Central University and was initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in the spring of 1949. Brother McAdams is an educator at his core and served as a Professor of Business and Registrar for many years at North Carolina Central University.

As an undergraduate, he held various offices within the fraternity. After graduation he joined the Durham (NC) Alumni Chapter, and eventually served as the Keeper of Exchequer. McAdams later became Polemarch of Durham Alumni and served for 3 years.

He is an enthusiastic supporter of the Durham Alumni Black and White Ball, and has faithfully attended Grand Chapter meetings for the past 15 years. McAdams is an active member of the National Kappa Chorus and a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Randal Rogers

Randal Moore Rogers, is a Durham Native and a 1957 graduate of Hillside High school. He continued his education at North Carolina Central University and received 3 post-secondary degrees: BS Commerce in 1962, MS Business Administration in 1968, and a Juris Doctorate in 1972. He was President of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Watkins Chapter at NCCU's Law School. Randal's legal and business acumen allowed him to pursue multiple career paths. From 1964-1969, he worked as a senior Buyer and contract administrator for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corporation in Hartford, CT. He has held positions at Benedict College, Winston-Salem State University, and the NCCU School of Business. He also owned and operated a real estate agency and an assisted living facility for seniors.

Rogers was instrumental in the purchase of the Kappa's of Durham Alumni House. He has been the recipient of Kappa Man of the year well as Senior Kappa Man of the year. He has served the Middle Eastern Province as a representative of the National Kappa Foundation. Randal is a 50 year plus member of Kappa where he has served as Polemarch of the Alpha Kappa Chapter, Polemarch of the Durham Alumni Chapter, and Middle Eastern Province Polemarch. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Beautillion Militaire Leadership Training Program designed to enhance leadership skills and provide college and University Scholarships.

Randal has served as vice chairman of the board of commissioners of the Durham Housing Authority and chairman of the Durham Committee on the affairs of Black people. He is a charter member of the James E. Shephard Sertoma Club, where he served as President and Chairman of the Board. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Durham Board of Adjustments. Rogers is a trustee of White Rock Baptist Church and Past Chairman of the trustee ministry.

Leroy Wray

Leroy Wray from Charlotte, North Carolina began his professional career in 2002 as in Durham, North Carolina as a teacher and later as a school administrator.

He received his Masters in Education Leadership and Technology at North Carolina Central University and has currently finished his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy.

Mr. Wray has a vast array of experience as an educator of over 15 years, including experience as an elementary classroom teacher at Title I schools, an elementary and middle school administrator for Title I schools, Title I Administrator and Coordinator for the largest school district in the state, adjunct professor, consultant, and president and founder of an education-based non-profit.

His focus is providing ways to educate, empower and engage students and families to be successful.

Jamaal Livan

Jamaal Livan is an experienced mid-level banker with 17 plus years of experience developing strong relationships with the city’s government, commercial businesses and corporate leaders while delivering optimum client satisfaction. With his demonstrated specialized skills in the areas of Credit and Financial Analysis, Commercial Lending, Accounting, and Federally backed SBA programs – he’s currently Vice President, Sr. Business Development Officer at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, one of the world's leading financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small and middle-market businesses and large corporations with a full range of financial and risk management products and services.

In other facets of his career, Jamaal has been responsible for working with Municipal Personnel and Elected Officials by analyzing operating and capital budgets used to develop a range of financial instruments that strengthen fiscal awareness while creating lending programs designed to fund Capital Projects for many organizations. Jamaal has also managed and implemented strategically designed lending packages to promote economic growth for similar commercial organizations.

Jamaal holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC, and a Master of Business Administration from North Carolina Central University School of Business.

He currently serves on several boards, notably The Prodigal son Foundation, Urban Ministries of Durham, and Lincoln Community Health Center Foundation. He worships as a member of Greater Life Christian Church where he is an active Trustee and Chairman of the Deacon Board.

Rodriguez Teal

Brother Teal is a graduate of North Carolina Central University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration in 1991 and his Master of School Administration in 1996. Teal was initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in October of 1988. He is an experienced educator that is dedicated to building productive relationships with stakeholders who are interested in creating positive learning environments for students of all ages. His strength in being an instructional leader coupled with his impeccable communication skills and a wide range of professional experiences has allowed him to successfully lead both low performing and high performing schools to produce positive trajectories of academic achievement for his students.

While serving as a Principal in Durham Public Schools for the last 25 years, he has been awarded the DPS Principal of the Year, Finalist for North Carolina Principal of the Year, Spectacular Magazine Educator of the Year, and the W. Deen Mohammed Islamic Center Educator of the Year. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor for the School of Education at North Carolina Central University and a presenter for the NC Principal Executive Program. Brother Teal has also made presentations at the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color, and AVID national conferences.

Brother Teal is the Founder and CEO of the Brother to Brother Mentoring Program. This program was founded in 1994 and is specifically designed to bolster the social, emotional, physical, and mental health of young men of color. This program teaches young men how to positively navigate school environments and teaches them the social cues needed to maintain positive relationships with adults and peers. By providing these young men with positive interactions with mentors, a safe place to dialog about the experiences, and exposing them to the world outside of their community, they develop skills to impact their lives and their communities.

Tremain Holloway

A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Tremain Edge Holloway was the Lead Math Teacher at Middle College High School located on the campus of Durham Technical Community college.

Tremain was a NC Teaching Fellow and 2014 NC Kenan Fellow at North Carolina State University. He completed his Bachelor’s work at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, where he was a part of the Men’s Basketball team (2006-2009).

To date Tremain has spent nearly 7 years educating on all levels, focusing on the development of mathematical fluency in the minds of today’s youth. He is profoundly interested in educational leadership at the K-12 level and has obtained a Master's Degree in School Leadership from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.

Tremain is hopeful to facilitate student and adult learning in the profession of education as he transitions from an Assistant Principal role at Raisbeck Aviation High School to Principal role at Highline High School this fall.

Derrick Hicks

Derrick W. Hicks Jr. matriculated from Enloe High School in 2011 to the sloping hills and verdant greens of North Carolina Central University. While at North Carolina Central he served as a resident assistant in Rush, Annie Day , and Eagle Landing residence halls. Derrick also served as a program mentor for the Aspiring Eagles Academy and was Vice president of CA Jones History club. Derrick was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, and Phi Alpha Theta honor societies during his sophomore year.

In the Spring of 2014 Derrick was privileged to be voted in as Student Body President of North Carolina Central University, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees. While serving as Student Body President, Derrick was influential in assisting to persuade the Board of Governors to vote yes on the building of a new Student Center for the campus. In the Spring of 2014, he was blessed to be initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, where he served as the Alpha Kappa Chapter Polemarch.

After Graduating from NCCU in the Spring of 2015 Derrick entered into the Master of Public Administration Program at NCCU. Derrick Received his Master’s in Public Administration Fall of December 2017. Since graduation Derrick worked as a Senior Data Processor for Infosys, University Program Specialist for NCCU Dept. of Nursing. Derrick presently works for Cisco Systems Inc. where he is a Business Analyst supporting the Public Sector of Advanced Services division.

Jeffery Mills Jr

Jeffery Mills Jr graduated from NCCU Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and was valedictorian of the spring 2018 class. He maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout college and was an honor student, Annie Day Scholar, and Chancellors Scholar.

Jeffery was awarded the management award for highest GPA in my department, the deans award for highest GPA in the school of business, and the university award for academic excellence.

Throughout college He had the privilege of serving as president of the school of business, communications chair for the university honors program, and Polemarch of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Starting Jeffery’s sophomore year, he interned in supply chain and procurement with UTC Aerospace Systems in Charlotte, NC. After graduation Jeffery plans to work for United Technologies in a rotational management training position within operations, where he will rotate to a different role, state, and UTC owned subsidiary every 8 months for the next 2 years. Jeffery first role will be as a quality specialist process champion in Farmington, Connecticut at the OTIS Elevators Headquarters.

Over the next 2 years he will fill roles in quality, supply chain, and manufacturing. At the completion of the program Jeffery will be placed in a full-time role in the state and subsidiary of his choosing as managerial level employee.
